The Solinst 429 Point Source Bailer is a reusable stainless-steel bailer built to collect a sample from one specific depth in an open borehole or screened well without mixing it with water from other depths. Ball valves at the top and bottom stay open during descent, letting water pass freely through the tube; once at the target depth, raising the bailer at a steady rate forces both ball valves shut under the weight of the water column, sealing in the sample as it's brought to the surface. There, a separate Sample Retrieval Device is inserted to unseat the lower check ball while a trigger on the top valve controls the flow rate for a slow, low-turbulence transfer into the sample container. The bailer disassembles fully for cleaning between uses.
