Ion Science SF6 AreaCheck P2 — Fixed Continuous SF6 Leak Detector
The Ion Science SF6 AreaCheck P2 is a fixed, continuous SF6 leak detector giving immediate awareness of an SF6 release in a switchroom or GIS hall — with no cross-sensitivity to other gases.
That specificity is the whole point. A detector that also responds to solvents, refrigerants or cleaning agents generates nuisance alarms, and nuisance alarms get ignored — an ignored alarm protects nobody. Since SF6 is heavier than air and displaces oxygen in low-lying and enclosed areas, continuous fixed monitoring is a personnel safety control as much as a gas-inventory one.
The instrument ships with a factory-set 30-minute measuring interval, which is the recommended default. It establishes a clean-air reference on power-up and after any manual reset — so power it up in clean air. The reference auto-adapts as SF6 concentrations fall, returning the instrument to full sensitivity once clean-air conditions are met again.
Alarm status is shown on staged indicator lamps with a parallel internal audible alarm, and RS232 output supports connection to a host system, which is also how the unit is configured. An optional oxygen sensor adds combined SF6 and oxygen-depletion monitoring, and the P2 Smart Sensor assembly is field-replaceable.
