Ion Science Hydrosteel 6500 — Hydrogen Flux Monitor for Steel Corrosion Detection
The Ion Science Hydrosteel 6500 measures hydrogen flux through steel — the atomic hydrogen permeating a vessel or pipe wall as a by-product of active corrosion. That makes it fundamentally different from thickness-based inspection: ultrasonic and radiographic methods tell you how much metal you have already lost, whereas hydrogen flux tells you whether metal loss is happening right now. It is a non-intrusive, non-destructive measurement taken from the outside of the equipment, with no shutdown, no insulation stripping beyond the probe location, and no process interruption.
Supplied as a full kit, the Hydrosteel 6500 supports large and small probe assemblies for survey work plus All Temp (AT-S) and High Temp (HT-S) stationary probes for permanent monitoring points, with conduit options up to 4 m.
APPLICATIONS
Wet H2S Damage Monitoring: Sour water strippers, amine units, overhead systems, and hydroprocessing circuits.
High-Temperature Hydrogen Attack and CUI Screening: Locating active corrosion sites without stripping full insulation runs.
Risk-Based Inspection Programs: Targeting inspection budgets at circuits that are actively corroding rather than on fixed intervals.
Corrosion Inhibitor Optimization: Measuring the real-time effect of a chemical treatment change on corrosion rate.
Turnaround Planning: Evidence for whether a vessel genuinely needs to be opened.
Permanent Monitoring Installations: Stationary AT-S and HT-S probes on known problem locations.
WHY THE HYDROSTEEL 6500
-
Detects corrosion activity in progress, not just accumulated damage
-
Non-intrusive and non-destructive — measured from outside, on-stream
-
Survey probes for roving inspection plus stationary probes for continuous points
-
All Temp and High Temp stationary probe options for hot service
-
Conduit lengths of 1 m, 2 m, and 4 m for awkward or elevated locations
-
Directly informs inhibitor dosing and inspection scheduling decisions
