Ion Science ARA — Disposable Single Gas Detector (H2S, CO, O2, SO2)
The Ion Science ARA is a wearable, intrinsically safe single gas detector built around a maintenance-free ownership model: single-button operation, a sealed plug-in sensor, no calibration program to administer, and a 24-month operating life from activation. For fleets of workers who need dependable personal gas protection without the overhead of a docking, bump-test and calibration regime, it is a substantially lower total-cost option than a serviceable instrument.
Four gas configurations are available — H2S, CO, O2 and SO2. Hibernation models (ARA100H, ARA200H) can be switched off between deployments to stretch useful life to a 36-month option, which suits contractor pools, emergency stock and any program where detectors sit idle between jobs. Hibernation activation and deactivation requires the ARA IR Link (part 908201), sold separately.
Docking and accessories
The ARA DOCK4 handles bump testing, calibration, buzzer and LED tests and data log transfer for up to four ARA detectors at a time. The ARA IR Link communicates with a PC by infrared, giving access to the last 30 event logs and the full range of user settings.
The DOCK4, IR Link, calibration caps and replacement sensors are stocked in ARA & ARA-X4 Spares & Accessories. Browse all Ion Science Parts and Accessories, or see the full instrument range in Ion Science.

- 24 months of operation — from a sealed lithium primary cell, with an on-screen lifetime countdown so replacement never comes as a surprise
- Three-way alarm — audible at 95 dB, visual LED, and a vibrating alarm that operates above -10°C (14°F)
- Adjustable alarm setpoints — set low and high thresholds to your own exposure policy rather than accepting fixed defaults
- Event logging — the 30 most recent events, downloadable over the ARA IR Link
- Hibernation models — ARA100H and ARA200H switch off between deployments for a 36-month life option
- Confined space entry — personal H2S, CO or O2 protection for entrants and attendants
- Water and wastewater — hydrogen sulfide monitoring in wet wells, digesters, manholes and lift stations
- Oil, gas and refining — sour service H2S protection and SO2 exposure monitoring
- Utilities and construction — carbon monoxide monitoring around engines, generators and hot work
- Contractor and visitor programs — issue-and-forget personal monitors for short-term or occasional site users
