Ion Science Tiger XTL PID — Handheld VOC Gas Detector, 1 to 5,000 ppm

The Ion Science Tiger XTL is a cost-effective handheld photoionization detector for routine VOC screening, built on the same patented Fence Electrode Technology as the Tiger XT. It measures from 1 to 5,000 ppm with a T90 response under two seconds and responds to more than 750 detectable compounds.

If your work is day-to-day screening rather than trace-level investigation, the XTL delivers the same speed, humidity resistance and rugged build as the XT without paying for ppb sensitivity you will not use. Same body, same 24-hour battery, same intrinsically safe approvals — a narrower range and a 2-year warranty.

Keeping it running

Lamps, electrode stacks, PTFE filter discs, batteries, charger cradles and calibration adaptors are stocked in Tiger XT Spares & Accessories, which covers the XTL. Calibration gas is listed under Calibration Gas.

  • 1 to 5,000 ppm range — matched to routine screening work rather than trace-level investigation
  • Response in under two seconds — the same T90 as the Tiger XT, so survey pace is unchanged
  • Fence Electrode Technology — humidity and contamination resistance built into the sensor, with no compensation needed
  • Up to 24 hours of runtime — on a rechargeable Li-ion pack with an 8-hour charge
  • 80,000 data points across 128 zones — push-to-log capture organized by location
  • Intrinsically safe and IP65 — Class 1 Division 1 approved, with rubber boot, dual flashlight and selectable vibrating alarm
  • Environmental monitoring — soil contamination screening and site characterization work
  • Landfill and solid waste — routine VOC checks across working faces and perimeters
  • Confined space entry — VOC screening before and during entry, alongside a four-gas monitor
  • Fugitive emissions and leak detection — walking surveys of valves, flanges and connectors
  • Tank and vessel entry — including wing tank work where residual vapors are the hazard
  • Emergency response — first-pass atmospheric screening at incident scenes
